Choppy gets an update

The Choppy mapping for Konkreet Performer and Traktor has just been updated to provide better performance and easier navigation for Konkreet Performer v2 and Traktor v2.6.

Using the new preset feature in Konkreet Performer v2, we’ve been able to add labelled nodes which makes performance a great deal easier (as you can now see exactly what you’re controlling on screen rather than just numbered nodes). We’ve also added bank names, making it much easier when navigating through the banks to find the controller you need.

There are now some Snapshots added to the FX Selection Bank, which load a variety of nice sounding effects combinations. It’s also really easy to store your own effects combos by saving snapshots on the FX Selection Bank.

The Traktor .TSI and the OSCulator .OSCD files have also been updated, so please ensure you reload / re-import these files when updating.

We’ve also updated the instructions on how to set everything up, so this should hopefully be a little less confusing now!

Scratchy for Ableton is an Instrument Rack based on the standalone Scratchy instrument and is used to create scratch-like rhythmic sounds.

It’s basically white noise (generated by Operator) fed through a gate, low pass filter, LFO and various effects. The timing on the filter / LFO can be changed to create rhythmic variations which, when fed through the gate, create something akin to scratching.

Scratchy does not require Max for Live as it’s created using just standard Ableton instruments and effects.

Add wild scratch sounds to Ableton Live

Since the Traktor 2.6 update it’s not been possible to select the new Macro effects (such as Wormhole or Polar Wind) from the drop-down Effects menu on the Mashy for Lemur template..

This has now been fixed so that you can select from all of the new effects.

Amazing and complex as Lemur is, there’s a limit on how many items you can display in a menu (max 32), so we’ve just added a second drop-down Effects menu with all the new effects. Simply hold Shift and select whether you want the new or old effects from the buttons that appear. You can select old or new effects for each of the effect slots individually.

If you’re using Traktor 2.6, please download and reinstall the new template and Traktor TSI.

It’s been tested pretty thoroughly but if you encounter amy problems please let us know.

Risers / Uplifters are prevalent through all forms of dance music and are used to build tension, particularly in breakdowns or builds to a drop.

Here’s a collection of a few which you may use freely in your own productions or DJ sets. They’re all 140bpm and last for 9 bars (8 bars for the effect and a 1 bar ‘tail’ at the end).

Here’s the full list of new features:

The really exciting part is being able to now change the colour of buttons based on MIDI input. This means that buttons can now be given a particular colour depending on their current state. So, for example, hotcue buttons can now change colour depending not just on whether they’re set as a hotcue or not, but can change colour if they’re set as a loop, a load marker, etc.

This new feature should tie in well with the latest v2.5 update planned for Traktor which includes the ‘Remix Decks’ and a new controller: Traktor Kontrol F1, a 4×4 grid of multicolour buttons (the functions of which are not completely known yet). From the little information Native Instruments have released about this update, it would seem that the buttons on the F1 change colour depending on their state. All being well, this should be able to be replicated now in TouchOSC.

Expect a new template for TouchOSC / Traktor around May when the new version of Traktor is released to incorporate controls for the new remix decks.
